Highway 4 – Cameron Bluffs Recovery Project

On June 6, 2023, Highway 4 closed at Cameron Lake Bluff, near Koen Road, because of a wildfire in the area. Highway 4 at Cameron Bluffs was fully reopened to two-way traffic on August 31, 2023.

Following an intensive recovery, this portion of the highway is no longer considered to be of great concern from an emergency or crisis perspective.  Sincere gratitude is extended to the many people, business, and organizations involved in the response and recovery, particularly several First Nations communities.

We thank the travelling public and impacted citizens and businesses of several communities including Port Alberni, Tofino and Ucluelet for their patience during what was a difficult time for everyone.

Quick facts:

  • Over 250 danger trees removed
  • Over 1000 tonnes of rock scaling materials removed
  • 15 rock bolts installed
  • 1.4  kilometres of new roadside barrier installed
  • 600 metres of rock catchment fencing installed
  • Weather station installed
